4. Believing your agent, lender, or anyone else works just for you.

Reality Check: Protect Yourself in Real Estate

Buying or selling a home is a big deal, and you’ll meet a lot of nice, helpful people along the way- agents, lenders, inspectors, and more. Most of them genuinely want to help you, but it’s important to remember that they’re also working for themselves. Many of them earn commissions, which means they don’t get paid unless “your deal” goes through.

This doesn’t mean they’re dishonest or that they don’t care about you -it’s just how the business works. Sometimes, even well-meaning professionals might overlook things or push for a sale because that’s how they make a living.

The key takeaway? Always do your own research and make informed decisions. Just because someone seems nice doesn’t automatically mean they’re the best choice for you. Being “nice” also doesn’t mean that they know what they are doing. – don’t confuse “nice” with “competent”! Stay Objective and verify everything yourself!
